SSL Change and Sitemaps

Just in case Zenfolio doesn't do it automatically, don't forget to update your sitemaps. Google uses those to index your site, so you'll want the updated URLs there. The only way I could see to have it happen right away was to add a new custom page (which updates the sitemap), then you can remove the custom page after.

    Thanks for the great advice!

Also just to add, Google has recommendations for what to do when your site's URL changes (such as when the protocol changes from HTTP to HTTPS). You can see their recommendations here.
  • Have all Zenfolio sites now been moved to https? I did the test when Zenfolio sent the email but today it seems my site is still http

I submitted my new site map for the https version of my site as soon as the change was made a few weeks ago.
Since then I briefly dropped about 7 spots in ranking but recovered back 6 spots back on page one for Google search.
    Not a bad thing.
If your using search console, make sure that once you submit your new https site map, that you fetch new content/Pages using only the https version going forward.

That being said, Google advises to keep all versions of your site in Search Console so don’t delete the (now unused) http version.

Also, just a heads up, make sure that you go through all of your social media pages and input your new https page links into your profiles so that everyone is being pointed in the right direction without a redirect.
    :)
