    Featured Galleries and Pricing

I have created a Group that will be called "New Images". Each day I have new uploads, I will create a new gallery to go under the "New Images" group and will title it the date of the upload. That gallery will remain in the "New Images" group for one week, and then I will move the images to their appropriate galleries (i.e., fine art, portraits, abstract, etc.).

Here's my question: As the images are uploaded, they may have a different pricing list associated with them. Some will have the fine art pricing, some event pricing, etc. There doesn't seem to be a way to disable associating any pricing list with the Group folder, so everything in it has to follow one pricing list. I tried to disable allowing printing from the Group folder "New Images" but, naturally, that meant that no prints could be ordered from any of the galleries held in the group. Is there anyway to get around that so that pricing will be determined by whatever price list is associated with the individual images in the galleries? When you upload images, you associate a particular price list with it, so couldn't that selection follow the individual image no matter the folder it is in?

    Re: Featured Galleries and Pricing

ok...  try this on and see how it fits you...

    • keep your GROUP 'New Images'.
    • Inside that group, create a COLLECTION called '12-21-08'.
    • Upload your images into their proper final galleries,
    • finally, add them to the '12-21-08' COLLECTION.

It will still display as a gallery, but each photo in the COLLECTION will be from the 'fine art' gallery or 'event' gallery and will keep the associated price list from the gallery it is actually in.   :)

You are adding one step now, the adding to collection, but after the week, you don't have to move to the gallery, just delete the collection (it wont affect the photos in the gallery).  That will save a step there, so it's a wash on the amount of effort.

PLUS, if I want to see what you have for fine art, now I have to look in fine art, then look in each dated gallery...  this new way, if I only go to fine art, I will see everything you have in one spot...  if I come back tomorrow, I can just go to the new date and see what's new...same work, keeps your per gallery pricing, and better functionality for customers!

neat eh?  (now what address should I send the consulting invoice to?)  hehehe

    Re: Featured Galleries and Pricing

Makes total sense, Kevin. The only snag I have is that I'm not allowing Collections because of people having to sign up for an account to view. I disabled that so signing up would be an option left for them to make AFTER they decided to purchase something and wanted to do that. Maybe I'm misunderstanding how the Collections work, but I was under the impression that when that was enabled, anyone viewing your galleries had to sign up first. I think that would discourage people right at the beginning from going any further. I know I have turned away from sites when "surfing" or checking out something I wasn't familiar with because it said I had to sign up first.

I like the way you describe how the setup would work. Maybe there's a workaround?

    Re: Featured Galleries and Pricing

there has been talk in the forums about pricing and customers adding to a collection so they could add the collection to the shopping cart, but having to sign up to CREATE a collection.  Anyone can VIEW a collection (and order from) that you yourself created and made public.  I think that is where your confusion came in.  Just do it Carolyn... trust me!  ;)
