Well, ... Zenfolio had their chance with me.

I will be signing up with SmugMug.  At least Admin are "actively" talking with the membership about the problem, where here, ..... nothing!

Hope we get some hint of what plans there are to resolve this soon, or even a reply of any kind would be nice.

Big,Ezy, nice alternative if a little expensive!

Yes, we expect major improvements in this area in the next few months.

    Re: search engine optimization

Agreed that this is good news, though we have to wait and see/hear the details.

I've similarly found that my flickr photos are a lot more easily and intuitively accessible via web searches than those on zenfolio, though I admit I haven't been so active in my keyword tagging on here as yet.

    Re: search engine optimization

One suggestion is to also include a sitemap that has all the links including groups, galleries and collections. This when linked from the homepage should be easily picked by any search engine.

    Re: search engine optimization

For example, zenfolio could auto-generate an xml Sitemap file (using the sitemap 0.9 protocol standard) for each website with links to gallery, collections etc. Then webmasters will be able to add their xml sitemap to google search engine which would index all its pages. This should be very simple to implement.

More on xml sitemaps and google search engine

    https://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/docs/en/protocol.html

(Infact I have a php script that generates the xml sitemap for my gallery, but unless I can upload the xml sitemap file to my site I can't tell google to use it. Either zenfolio implements this feature and give us a link to the sitemap file or it should let users upload a xml/html file.)

    Re: search engine optimization

    FYI all:

Here's some possibly useful information I ran across today.  I have no connection to the publishers of the link or the report being offered.  I'm just passing it on because the issue gets a lot of discussion in the Zenfolio forums periodically.  I did download it and skimmed it quickly.  It looks useful to me so I thought I'd share. Obviously I can't guarantee the report's accuracy so follow the link at your own risk.  Hopefully we'll all learn a tip or two.

    I hope it proves useful.

So have these major improvements already been made? Or at least an update on this issue?

    Re: search engine optimization

Yep also would like to ask for update if possible.

This Post (some go into 2008) was started in Jan,  Feb 18th reply was in next few month, but still no news.

I ask again only because unlike some other members I only wish to run and maintain my Gallery (on ZF) I'm not interested in adding a blog or anything else just so that it can be used to plug the indexed by search engines correctly that ZF are missing.

I think a solution is being worked on, or at least that is the way I've read some of the staff replies in the forum, but just a little hint or news would be nice ;-)

or are you adding this feature in with the customization that's coming next release, if you are no problems.  (if that's still coming next release that is!)

BTW, on a good point, love the addition of UK/European Print Lab :-)

    Re: search engine optimization

As Ray mentioned earlier that none of the tags, links or captions are visable with a text based browser. Try disabling javascript in your browser to get an idea what search engines see when they crawl the site. It's not much. BTW smugmug isn't much better. You can navigate the site but none of the images and most of the text isn't visible.

Photoshelter's seo cookbook is a good resource. Photoshelter is also an alternative site that has better seo. It's a little pricy though. Hopefully zenfolio will make some progress on this soon.

    Re: search engine optimization

I signed up with Zenfolio today, premium account, and yes, Google has picked up my web site within a day to my pleasant surprise. However, this has nothing to do with Zenfolio as everyone on this thread has said already that SEO is not available feature.

I have set up WordPress blog loaded with various SEO plug-ins with subdomain pointing to my Zenfolio gallery. Because search engines loves blogs and because I have sent my sitmap.xml to all search engines my name popped up in a few hours (I was expecting it within 48 hours or so, but, hey, I'll take it). It is true that people cannot find your specific Zenfolio photo using Google image search, but they can if you blog about that specific photo. Of course, you can't blog about every single photo in your gallery, but selecting one good photo a week can definetelly help driving the traffic.

At least that is my strategy, I will let you know in a month how well it works for me. I am gradually adding photos to my gallery.
