I use an absolutely wonderful lab named "White House Custom Color" @ http://www.whcc.com/

In my experience, their service is w/o equal. Order delivery is free. They have different products. The quality of their work is excellent. They call you if they see a problem w your print before shipping. I think it is in keeping w Zenfolio's quality & I would love it if there was some connection between the two services altho it's not necessary to use whcc, it would be easier.

Do I have any commercial interest in this company?

    Absolutely not

    Re: lab choice

Some time ago, we contacted the WHCC lab for the purpose of using them as a fulfillment lab. They were not capable technically nor interested in integration at that time.

And then we found the Miller's lab and MPIX, which is just as good in every way, if not better, and after shipping thousands of orders for them I can say that we couldn't be happier both with the quality of the prints, the service they provide, and the integrity of the staff.

Alex, Thanks for your prompt response. I have clients who want book of photos of event. I haven't found that service w Zenfolio labs. Maybe I'm missing something.  I've ordered a print from one of your vendors for comparison sake.

We do not currently carry albums or photo books from any vendor. Supporting multi-image products is a UI challenge we hope to address at some point in the future.

Proof books can be ordered from MPIX directly. Not ideal, but it is not something clients usually configure and order so it is in the photographer's hands.

I too am a big fan of WHCC. I know Miller/Mpix does great work, but WHCC has a wider offering of finishes and specialty treatments. They were also one of the first to actually honor embedded profiles (Adobe RGB vs. sRGB) and print accurately to the wider gamut. A shame that they showed no interest in partnering.

I also get all my prints from WHCC. It's possible they were asked to integrate before they moved their location and got bigger?

    Re: lab choice

I suspect it has to do w finance; i.e. the ROES system is ordering / billing / etc. It appears to be totally automated which may explain their cost structure.  In addition it was probably too difficult to integrate w Zenfolio & finally, how do they share profits.

WHCC is pretty well known & may not feel the additional exposure they might get from Zenfolio users is worth the effort. All in all it is a shame as it is such a good, well-rounded service.

I don't know about you but mugs, aprons, mouse pads & the like is not of interest to me. I imagine it might be of interest to compainies @ xmas time, etc. -- high volume.

I chose Zenfolio because it seemed more elegant than Smug Mug & some others which are nice services but too cutsie for me.  Just my .02c U.S., currently worth about .01c around the world.

    Re: lab choice

I love WHCC too! I did a comparison between Mpix and WHCC and found a difference in skin tone - WHCC was smoother. Mpix ended up with a slightly warmer hue and a tad more contrast. My highlights were on the verge of blowing out on the mpix prints. (yes, monitor is calibrated)

Does anyone know the secret to printing thgouht mpix? I downloaded the Softproofing Profile for them but hesitate to adjust the files to mpix perfection when I  still need to order cards and books from WHCC and canvas prints from Simply Canvas.

BTW - I also sent a request to WHCC and Simply Canvas for Zenfolio integration.

    Thanks!

    Steph

We highly recommend using Mpix color correction service. This service is free of charge and results in an actual trained technician with a lot of experience doing subtle adjustments. The results are very consistent.

When you are performing comparisons, make sure to enable Color Correction in the Cart.
