    Larger images!

Zenfolio desperately needs larger image sizes not only when you "dim lights," but also for the slideshow. Your direct competition, Smugmug, offers full screen images for very large monitors. Even free image hosting sites are offering larger image sizes than Zen (i.e. Picasa web)! That is unacceptable for us. Larger images are a huge part of elegant presentation. Please, we need this soon! Thanks.

    Re: Larger images!

I second the request for larger images and would like to add my wish for a loupe, as seen in Apples Aperture. I'm sure that's hard to do, but I'm prepared to be surprised :]

I 3rd it.  I would be nice.  That's the only complaint I get from my clients is that it's just not as big as they'd like to view it.

I don't think there is anyone that doesn't care for this upgrade. This is my only complaint with Zen. However, it's somewhat of a big one. This will definitely effect my decision to stay with Zen or not when renewal time comes around. Wilted Flower

I also subscribe to this. We need much LARGER image size.

On a 24" monitor the max image size is way too small.

This is also my biggest complaint with Zenfolio.

    Re: Larger images!

Some of us use 24" monitors in the office, and often times we wish for larger images to fill the available screen real estate. As the first step, we have collected data on browser resolutions from visits to layout pages.

The most frequently used screen sizes are:

    1024 x 768 (30%)

    1280 x 800 (20%)

    1280 x 1024 (13%)

Less than 5% of visitors have the resolution of 1900 x 1200, which is typical for a 22"-24" monitors. For the majority of visitors, our largest image size of 1100 pixels is sufficient to take almost the entire screen. Even in the Dim the Lights, or in the slideshow mode, many visitors never get to experience the largest size we are offering!  That being said, we are indeed considering adding a larger image size to provide the best possible viewing experience for the lucky ones with large monitors.

    Re: Larger images!

The problem is the slide show window is not fullscreen. This takes away some space from the picture. All I know is, our pictures are not the same size as Smugmug's or Picasa's. On my laptop, which has a 1280x800 resolution, the pictures in the slideshows at Smugmug are displayed larger than they are in ZF. It's not a matter of even increasing the resolution of pictures. We need to make the slide show full screen. This image from Smugmug almost completely fills my 1280x800 screen in slideshow mode: http://www.smugmug.com/popular/today#575163701_MTZsP

Increasing image size won't really fix the problem. Make the slideshow fullscreen, please.

Yes, it's true that most people use small resolution screens with horrible image quality. So the size of the image displayed will not matter for those screens. It will be either horribly looking small image or a horribly looking large image.

    Re: Larger images!

Agreed!  Why should I pay $25/year or more when I can get larger images on a free service like Picasa?

    Re: Larger images!

I concur with the others.  The other thing I would like is the ability to set "dim the lights" resolution separately from the single image view.  This would help people with lower bandwidth connections and those with broadband could use the "dim the lights" option.  Of course dynamically choosing the resolution (like in smugmug) would be ideal as well.

    Re: Larger images!

Many of my friends and colleagues have been complaining about the small image size for quite some time. On modern 24-30-inch screens the 1100-pixel image is way too small for comfortable viewing, it really is a joke in 2009. As already mentioned, all other online galleries offer larger image sizes. I've been very happy with Zenfolio but this is a major issue for me. I do hope you add more image sizes as soon as possible. Personally I'll wait until the end of the year but not a day longer.

    Re: Larger images!

Add my name to the list - since being with Zenfolio everything has evolved nicely with this big exception. 22 inch is fast becoming standard and my work loses so much impact when being viewed at Zenfolio's maximum size on such a screen. Please implement this ASAP.

Yes, it would be nice to have this option, but I don't think it's such a priority. Low resolution monitors are still in great majority.

    Re: Larger images!

In addition to what I said, I'd like to mention the portrait image display size. Now this is the issue that I'd like to be resolved at some point in time. All portrait oriented images look disproportionatelly small compared to the landscape oientation. The vertical length of a portrait oriented image is even smaller than that of a lendscape one.

    Re: Larger images!

Agree completely.  I think the portrait image display size is far too small.

I understand Zenfolio's POV that they're resized so that the entire image can be seen without scrolling up and down.  However, I'd much rather have the larger size as seen in places like Photo.net where portrait oriented photos are just as large as the landscape oriented photos.
