You don't think it's such a priority? Do you work for Zenfolio? Any Zenfolio user would say that they want larger pictures. Let me say this again. It's not a problem with just large monitors! I want the slideshow to fill my laptop screen (1280x800). I want them in true fullscreen like Smugmug's. This has to be addressed before you tackle the lager monitors issue.

Add me to the list, too. We definitely need bigger image sizes here.

I am very disappointed.  Zenfolio is so far behind in providing the true full screen feature.  This should be their first priority.  If I don't see this feature available on the next upgrade, I would consider jump ship!

    Re: Larger images!

We plan to introduce a larger image size. It will be another fixed size, generated using our techniques that achieve the best possible quality of the display image. Displaying a full-screen image can be accomplished by either using Flash, or by using browser-based resizing. Both methods compromise image quality, as they have to "stretch" the image to the available screen real estate.

What I really hope for is a true full screen slide show feature, like the one on Flickr, that makes the browser window framing totally disappeared and expands the background plus image to the whole screen (the configured monitor displayable area).  It transforms a PC monitor completely into a slide show picture frame.

So it would have downscale or upscale on the fly, right? but what about the image quality?

    Re: Larger images!

There's a very large set of all possible monitor sizes. Stretching images to the viewer's size will compromise the quality. There are cases when the stretching will be small, so the quality degradation will be almost unnoticeable, and there are cases when resizing will cause many artifacts. As I said, we are working on a solution that should address some of the concerns expressed in this thread.

    Re: Larger images!

The image quality of a moving slide show is not as demanding as DIM THE LIGHTS viewing. If it allows the user to select stretched full screen image and non-stretched image, it would be great.

In my opnion, the presentation and appearance of the full screen image+background have way more impact to the minor image quality degradation during a moving slide show.  Also, by simply making the browser and Window's toolbars disappeared as the first step would improve the slide show quality tremendously.

    Re: Larger images!

I completely agree. Give us the choice! Let us choose if we want to slightly degrade the quality or not. The impact of viewing a picture in true fullscreen is much higher than the degradation of quality. Just give us a choice and no one has to worry about how much quality is being degraded. To be able to view a picture in fullscreen should be a basic for paid photo hosting.

    Re: Larger images!

Please make the new, larger image size noticeably bigger than the current 1100-pixel image, so that it looks good also on large monitors. Minimum of 1600-pixel width for landscape-oriented images would be nice. That would look good on 24-inch screens and half-decent on 30-inch screens. I'll happily welcome also even larger versions! Stick out tongue

    Re: Larger images!

Everyone knows the quality issue when you blow up an image, print or display. It’s very clear from the topic of this forum everyone asks for the true full screen image feature, no matter the screen size or resolution.  In fact it’s the bigger the better.

Zenfolio should understand their customer’s wishes, instead of going against them. Many photo hosting web sites have offered this option. There may be technical difficulty for Zenfolio to make this feature available soon, they should express their willingness to satisfy the customers' simple and reasonable requests.

Check out this randomly selected Flickr public photostream:

    http://www.flickr.com/photos/awfulsara/sets/1113491/show/with/38679028/

You can click (at the bottom right corner) to expand the image to full screen. Make sure you move your cursor away from the bottom after.  You get a wow effect instantly. Once you see it, you won’t stop using it.  If you like it, please make your voice heard.  It's the votes count.

    Re: Larger images!

I have to admit it doesn't look half as bad as I thought on my 24" ColorEdge. it could probably look even better if the uploaded landscape oriented images were 1900x1200. Definitelly, it's something to think about.

    Re: Larger images!

Wow I don't notice any quality degradation in the flash method that Flickr uses. Flickr is free! Wow, if I am not completely satisfied with the image size next year when I have to re-subscribe, I am changing to Smugmug. In the meantime, I will get a FREE Flickr account and have a look. I can't believe I'm paying for a service that is worse than something I can get for free!

    Re: Larger images!

There's an obvious quality degradation. You wouldn't notice it if you are accustomed to shooting with point and shoot cameras. The photos are definitely softer.
