    Hiding galleries

If I understand what you are asking for, I do it all the time.

What I have done is created a "Clients" group. I set the access control for this group to "owner view only." Users can't see the group.

Then within this group, I create galleries for each project. Generally, I don't password protect them -- I set the access control to "public - open to all." This way, I just give the URL to the client, and then can get to it directly without using a password, but it's pretty much impossible to browse to. Works GREAT!

For projects where for whatever reason, the client is concerned about privacy, I take the additional step of adding a password.

Using this simple approach, I have hundreds of galleries that are not visible to the general public, but my clients, with the proper URL, can go directly to them.

It seems like I tried that but when the slide show window displayed, it said something like 'accessible to owner only.'

    Re: Hiding galleries

Dunno - the link to an example slideshow I posted up a little earlier in the thread is set up that way. I have a "Clients" group which is owner only, and then I have a group within it for "Kevin and Sara's Wedding" set to public viewing with no password. The slideshow points to a "Best of" gallery within that group, that is also open to the public. It's working right now. . .

Re: Question about new embedded slideshow feature

Thanks for the information Paul. I think I see the problem. It looks like you're running the Wordpress app from your own server. I'm hosted on wordpress.com. According to the Wordpress FAQ the 'embed' tag is not permitted on hosted sites. I thought the slideshow on your site looked very nice. It was clean and loaded quickly with no stuttering.

Some other Zenfolio members have offered suggestions and I will try them all. It's a bit confusing but there's nothing like a little challenge to keep you sharp!

My thanks to you and evryone who replied. At least I know it is possible. I'll keep bangin' away at it!

    Thanks again for your time!

Re: Question about new embedded slideshow feature

I agree, near perfect implementation.  I especially like the "Visit Gallery" link on the mouseover.  I used to include a link to the full gallery in each post and now its taken care of for me.  I did have an initial bug posting in blogger, but it looks like after reporting it, ZF fixed the code within minutes, very impressive.

Re: Question about new embedded slideshow feature

I was having problems with the embeddable slideshow on my hosted Wordpress blog but it somehow fixed itself. The slideshow is now functioning perfectly on my hosted site. I am running an older version of Wordpress and tested on IE8, Firefox 3.5, and Safari 4.

I tested the code out by copying it into notepad and saving it as an HTML file. Then I opened it within IE8, Firefox 3.5, and Safari 4 and it worked perfectly in all three browsers. Afterwards, I was able to copy the code into my blog post and it worked. I'm not sure if it was anything I did, but I'm just glad that it's working now!

Re: Question about new embedded slideshow feature

I am excited about this feature, although I have yet to try it. This thread seems to be a helpful one.

Just a curiosity question to Zenfolio - do you foresee a day when we may be able to set audio/music to slideshows?

I too think it's evil...but I'd agree that most people like it.

Re: Question about new embedded slideshow feature

I agree that there should be a choice for autostart. It can be useful at times, but other times it would be best to have a user select play. Although this can be an annoyance at times, it should ultimately be the choice of the photographer to set this. I look forward to this addition.

What I think is EVIL, is when I hover over the slideshow the picture shrinks. It's too much movement and a major annoyance. The controls should overlay the photo or the slideshow area should incorporate space show that the picture does not have to shrink. The controls and photo title could actually be made smaller so that not too much of the picture is covered. I hope this is changed in the next version.

I also love the slide show - Thanks - my Question - Can we "set display captions below images " as an option.

Re: Question about new embedded slideshow feature

If not too late for this release, can you also let us change the title colors? Currently, the text is bright white on a black background so the titles are very distracting when watching the slideshow.

Also, (someone has already asked for it), in full-screen mode, can we have a choice to prevent pictures from being resized past their original size?

    Thank you,

    Paul.

Re: Question about new embedded slideshow feature

I too am very interested in the Autostart feature, would love an ETA on that if possible.  For time being just trying to conjure up a SPRY / Javascript slideshow for our main page, but this would be so much easier!

Also the option to remove all controls from the slideshow, i.e. nothing happens when you mouseover the pictures.  That would be great for a main page in our case.

    Thanks!

Re: Question about new embedded slideshow feature

Many thanks to the Zenfolio team for the new autostart feature for embedded slideshows. It's going to revolutionize the way I use images on my websites. I really appreciate the beautiful implementation you have provided for this feature.

    Best,

    Paul
