Ok, I've figured out the first and most obvious problem.  The next question is how can I assign a specific price for the entire gallery indepedent of the price of individual images? 

 My current work around has been to create a coupon that starts at the max value of the gallery with a discount effectively capping the total.  The problem with this is not being able to limit the coupon to just downloading from a specific gallery.  Is it possible to allow coupons to be limited to specific galleries?

The only thing that comes to mind is to setup a unique price list for each gallery. This would be a little bit of work on the front end. but I believe that setting a unique price list for ach gallery allows you to include or exclude items from the list.
