    Photo Mechanic Upload Speed?

Until zenfolio allows uploading via ftp (please!) I have been using lightrooms plugin. But my question today is if using photo mechanics upload any faster than lightroom?

the problem with lightroom is that it has to first render the photo before exporting then uploading.

i understand that i could always knock down the size of the image, but i am not always around my computer to approve orders and upload high res files to fulfill the orders. and with the volume i am getting, this is just not feasible.

did i mention that i upload large sums of photos split into sub galleries?

For example, i uploaded about 1800 photos last night using lightroom and it tool 16 hours with a high speed cable internet!

other than that, thank you zenfolio

    Re: Photo Mechanic Upload Speed?

Are you shooting RAW, JPEG, or TIFF?  If it's RAW, then you've got to process it; no way around it.

From what you've mentioned, there isn't really enough to go on to figure out what the bottleneck(s) is/are.  Three potential ones that come to mind:
    1) RAW processing
    2) Upload speed
    3) If the lightroom plugin doesn't upload an image while it's processing the next one.

Photo Mechanic might help with 1 and/or 3 (but it could also be slower; I've never used Lightroom or Photo Mechanic, so I couldn't say).

    Re: Photo Mechanic Upload Speed?

shooting sports I only shoot jpeg, so we are not talking about raw processing speed. I know its not my internet connection because I have conducted several test at different times of the day and my upload speed is very fast and consistent.

I have the previous version of Photo Mechanic and it is awesome, it just doesn't support uploads to zenfolio. Photo mechanic is also the main software used by professional sports photographers who have to upload to companies such as SI, Getty, AP and so on, so I may just have to bite the bullet and upgrade to the newest version of PM.

    thanks for the reply.
