Visitor counter not even close to not matching with Google Adwords clicks

So I'm trying to find out the source of this issue.  I have Google Adwords pointed to my Zenfolio page, the issue is that the number of clicks that Adwords is claiming isn't even close to the number of visitors that my Zenfolio page is registering.  I understand that only unique visitors are being logged and there could be other things contributing to the discrepancy, but the gap is so large that I doubt things like that are the sole issue.  As far as numbers go Adwords is claiming about 184 clicks, but I only see 21 visitors counted on the Zenfolio page, that's a big gap.  Have people seen this issue before?  Is there an explanation that I'm not understanding?  I'm currently looking into the invalid click issue on the Google side as well.

    Thanks

Are you using Google Analytics as well?  If so, what's your bounce rate?  Average time on site?  I see the same thing.  Someone clicks on an ad, and leaves before the page loads or as soon as it does.  Zen counts unique visits. Google counts everything, including the "oops, clicked the wrong thing" and "not what I was looking for" and maybe even web crawlers (not sure).  It seems like the Zen counter is of people that actually spend a few minutes to look at your site.

Kevin, no I don't have Google Analytics setup, I'll have to look into that and see what I find out.  Thanks!

Kevin is right.  The hit counts on Google Analytics is a lot higher than the page counter at Zenfolio.  Unsure why.

Google Analytics counts page hits, while ZF counts unique visitors. GA also counts when YOU go to your OWN page, ZF does not.

GA is showing my bounce rate to be really high, and the average time spent on the site as really low.  Are there any conclusions to be drawn by this?  Other than my pictures are really bad? :-)  Although seriously it seems like the time spent on the site isn't even long enough to determine the quality of the photos (just a couple seconds on average).  Are these hits coming from some crawler or something?  If that's the case I'm paying Google for bogus clicks.

You could always refine your keywords to be very specific.  Bad news, your impressions (times the ad is shown) will go way down.  You will always get clicks that are worthless.  A lot of times, the keywords that show up as clicks to my site are from people typing an address of another zenfolio user into google and doing a search.  They click around until they find the right site.

I pre-pay my adwords account.  I usually spend about $20 a time with a low daily budget set.  I'll get 4 or 5 clicks a day, most with 100% bounce rate.  I just don't worry that much about it, it's only $20 every couple of months which is an advertising expense.  It would cost more to run an ad in the local paper and probably result in as many sales.

The clicks probably aren't bogus, just coming from people that don't know what they are looking for or are not very familiar with the internet (there are a suprising number of people in that category).
