Re: Ability to sell digital files

I would really appreciate this feature...as selling files is something I am doing increasingly.

This is one of the high-priority features on our list.

     Any idea of an ETA?

You can sell digital images on here by setting up a cutom product, customer orders it, they pay through paypal (after you email them an invoice or they click on the link in your order message), then you email them the photo file (or snail mail a disk).

Yes, but that's a work-around (and it's a great suggestion!)  But wouldn't you rather have it be possible to give the customer instant download?

Also, when I went to your website, I felt that the digital download was a bit hidden under the custom products moniker (I only looked there because I knew you had the digital download somewhere).  I'm thinking I might've missed it had I just been a customer perusing your gallery.

Are we any closer to having this?

Gee, I wonder. It's aproved as far as I know and, supposedly, in the works. I really need this badly, might have to switch to something else when my membership expires.

Re: Ability to sell digital files

I was also wondering if there is the possibility of adding an additional option for the galleries to be public, but allow registered users identified by me to have the ability to download original photos.  Much of my work is different from the more traditional senior/family photos.  I am a fire department photographer and although many of the firefighters purchase action shots of themselves, I also have many of them that would like to download the photos to use.  I do not, however, want just anybody in the public to have the ability to download the photos, but I want the public to be able to view them.  Any ideas, thoughts, suggestions or future plans for this to be able to happen?

    Thanks

Re: Ability to sell digital files

I absolutely need the ability to sell digital files, and when I switched to Zenfolio from Exposure Manager - which does allow digital sales (as of more than a year ago) - I asked when the feature would be added. In May (when I joined), I was told that "while currently not available, we will definitely allow selling of digital files at some point in the next 3-4 months."

In June, the answer was "Selling file downloads is definitely on our list of feature enhancements in future releases. When they become available, you would just add digital products to your existing price lists so both types of products can be orders."

In September, I was told, "Selling digital downloads is a high priority feature for us. There’s no exact timeline, but we expect it to be available in a few months."

It's now October, which is more than 3-4 months from May. Zenfolio, digital sales aren't an option in the market, they are a necessity. I'm losing money, you're losing money. Please add this feature.

Re: Ability to sell digital files

    Amen and amen.

This is why they don't want to give timelines, due to the high likelihood of failing to meet promise dates these days.

The only items of note that I have seen added since I started evaluating ZF prior to becoming a member are: toggles for minor formatting changes, additional partner products that my customers are uninterested in, an increase in MPIX shipping prices that were already too high and a major deterrent to my customer sales, and no addition of what should be the simplest money making feature of all--digital downloads.

For digital downloads, the fulfillment cost is effectively zero, a ZF "partner" doesn't take a cut, my customers are demanding them, and ZF would likely in month one of implementation make as much in commission from these sales.  E.g. this makes sense!

The cost of not implementing digital downloads is rapid customer flight to the many alternatives who offer such products and have for a while, and are now making switching costs very low with automated transfer utilities.

I am beginning to think that ZF, as good as it has been in the past, risks failing as a business if they do not resolve this post haste.

Yes indeed...the 'Digital File Download' feature would be REALLY GREAT, and I hope that it does come to fruition very soon.   I don't know what all is entailed is setting such a capability up, but I have a little less than five months before my renewal will be required, and I DO hope that it is in effect by then.  I, too, would hate to move away from here, and hope that it won't have to come to that.

Re: Ability to sell digital files

I've been thinking about this feature lately and mostly how I would price it. Does anyone have a good idea of how they would price a direct download? Would you charge whatever the profit amount is on your largest print? Also, has ZF stated if they would be taking the 12% cut off of direct downloads?

I'm going to be flexible with this. Different customers will have different prices for those downloads, and not all the images would cost the same.

Vitas said earlier in this thread that digital image sales is a high-priority feature on their list. That was more than a month ago. I'm hoping we'll have this feature in November -- this year I hope Wink

I would sure hate to see how long it takes for a low priority item to get done.

Re: Ability to sell digital files

Exposure Manager charges $0.75 per download. Zenfolio ought not choose to charge 12%, or I'm definitely switching back to EM.
