Is there a backing on the mats?

When I order a print with a mat, is there a backing included?  If so, is it foamcore or cardboard?  Hopefully, it's one or the other.  That way, I can throw them in a frame OR in a slip cover for clean, easy selling at art shows.

I'm placing a big order and want to know before I do so.  Thanks!

    Glenn

    Glenn,

When you order a mat board it is single or double weight (depending on the size) and its always a foamcore. Let me know if you have any other questions.

    Thanks,

    Thanks, Jason.

    A few more questions:

What's the thickness of the foamcore?

Will each matted print be shipped in its own plastic sleeve?

The images are grouped within sleeves based on the print size.  So if you order 5 - 4x6 size prints they will all be packaged in one plastic sleeve.

    single weight=1/16"
    double weight=1/8"

    Single/Double Weight Matboard -

Photographic prints are adhesively pressed onto a single weight (2x) or double weight (5x) depending on the size of the print. The finished product will allow you to have a durable print ready for framing services.

    Hope this helps ...

Re: Is there a backing on the mats?

My order arrived and I'm disappointed.  I thought the print would be 'sandwiched' between a cut mat and a backing board.  I though there would be a mat with a hole cut to the size of the print -- 5x7, etc.  The printing quality is very good, but I wish the ordering process was clearer.  I suggest you clarify it on the order page.

                                                   Thanks.

Re: Is there a backing on the mats?

This is one of the big holes in the zenfolio/mpix fulfillment; when they refer to matting, it is backing board mat only. there is currently no option to have the kind of mat that goes in front with the beveled hole cut to show the print. This is true for framed prints as well. The ordering process for this is very confusing to store owners and customers alike.

MPIX has announced version 2.0 of their service that that that does allow the kind of mat you are looking for when you order a frame, but I don't know if you can order it like that without the frame. Zenfolio has stated that they will be implementing the new mpix 2.0 ordering options to Zenfolio 'soon', but who knows how long 'soon' is for them... could be next week, could be 6 months from now. I imaging that all the changes are not an easy addition to add and debug for us.

Perhaps someone from Zenfolio can answer these questions before too long.

Does going over a month without an answer count as too long?

Yes, I believe that even by zenfolio's glacial standards... it is too long.

Re: Is there a backing on the mats?

My apologies, i did not think there was a question here. Just to clarify Mpix has announced matting that will be available with framed orders only, matting on its own is not be available through Mpix.

Additional frames with matting and glass will be available on Zenfolio shortly as announced previously.
