Hello,

It would be handy if I could search for photos based on keyword(s). Can the SearchPhotoByText method be used for this? If so, are there some examples of string queries that set up a keyword search?

API methods for processing order lists and order approval

Triggered by this post http://forums.zenfolio.com/forums/p/3125/16614.aspx#16614 I thought about automating processing of self fulfilled custom products via 3rd party tools. E.g. when offering images on CD a 3rd party tool could grab the order list and burn all ordered images to CD either from local image depot or by downloading the ordered images from the ZF gallery. Similar a 3rd party tool could provide the images for the prefered (local) print lab of one photographer.

Another case is when photog only upload previews to ZF and have order approval switched on just to minimize upload time.

With the current API I did not find a way to access the order lists for either self fulfillment or order approval. Methods like LoadOrderList(status) and FinishOrderWithApprovedImages(orderId) would be needed.

Would this be a usefull enhancement of the API?

api inconsistencies

Hi,

I'm poking around v 1.2 and notice a few things that seem odd.

For instance:

I can get photoset title photos but not group title photos (one thread said it was implemented, but it's not working for me)

I can GetPopularPhotos but 1) I can't specify a user and 2) can't get Views for my own photos to do the same thing manually, though I can get views for photosets. Same with GetPopularSets, and GetRecentPhotos (though at least I can manually get recent ones since the timestamps are returned in the objects)

I'm a bit confused by the object hierarchy, since both PhotoSet and Group share some fields that could be part of GroupElement (and share some with Photo as well, ie Caption) - but perhaps I'm just being persnickety. Maybe there's a backend difference that's irrelevant to the API?

I can set some items but not get them - ie CustomReference. I understand the rationale for the other way around - but this just seems silly :)

There is no option to load the group hierarchy with photosets/photos intact. I can obviously recurse the tree, but this takes awhile since each call takes a second or so (though I hacked a nifty routine to parallelize this) but it would be much simpler to just send 1 request.

Any plans to address the above? Or perhaps I'm confused about some of them? Are the docs fully up to date with 1.2?

Cart methods?

I am using the API to display a custom home page with quick navigation to individual images. I would like an "add to cart" button on my site that takes the customer directly to the product selection screen at ZF. This doesn't seem to be part of the regular API and a glance at the HTML source for the ZF button wasn't instructive.

Possible? Other ideas?

I've manually constructed a SOAP request that I'm posting to the 1.1 API. This request worked fine for the 1.0, so am wondering what I'm missing.

Group snapshot object has no title photo member

It seems I'm able to give both my collections and groups a cover photo but through the API I can't see how to get that photo back for groups.

If I understand the semantics correctly,

site "group" = API "group"

site "collection" = API "photoset"

site "gallery" = API "photoset"

The photoset object does have a title photo so I assume I can get that cover image for my collections.

WSDL Issue (AXIS2)...?

I'm using AXIS2 to generate Java classes from the WSDL at...

...but notice that the SOAPAction for AuthenticatePlain is as follows...

...when trying to authenticate using AXIS2, I get the following...

Exception in thread "main" org.apache.axis2.AxisFault: HTTPS connection required

...and am wondering whether the WSDL is correct (i.e. soapAction="https://....)

When I manually change the action to HTTPS in the generated class, I get the following however...

Exception in thread "main" org.apache.axis2.AxisFault: Server did not recognize the value of HTTP Header SOAPAction: https://www.zenfolio.com/api/1.1/AuthenticatePlain

Not sure what that's about. I should point out that the LoadPublicProfile request seems to work (using AXIS2)

HTML when setting Gallery / Collection and Group Captions

Hello,

Couple of questions here relating to links (and HTML in general) in the caption field where available.

I notice that, via the web UI, links are possible using the rich text editing box but it appears that one does not have complete control over what is essentially the construction of the <a> tag.

As far as I can tell, the href conents and what's within the tag have to be the same, for example...

...the following does not appear to be possible...

<a href="www.xyz.com">click here</a>

I was hoping I could resolve this using the API, but when I try and pass something like the second example in, I get an error.

First, is it even possible to have an <a> tag like the second example and, if so, is there a particular encoding I have to use in order to pass it into the API.

When I try using the API and get a LoadPhotoSetResult returned, the <Caption> tag contains the following...

<Caption>A <a href="http://www.somesite.com" target="_self">http:/â€‹/â€‹www.â€‹somesite.â€‹com</a> link</Caption>

Am wondering whether I need to use a particular character encoding when sending SOAP requests (I'm using UTF-8) or use special escape sequences within the caption itself in order to get the HTML in there.

It would be nice to be able to add HTML to captions using the API (as opposed to using the web UI's rich text box).

Lightroom Plugin??

I have been thinking about buying Lightroom and one of the pushes is that I could import from Lightroom to Zen. I have tried for 2 days in a row to download the plug and I just keep getting an error page. Is this option no longer available??

I have a password protected website (htaccess). I would like to have my visitors get access to my password protected zenfolio galleries without having to enter the needed password because they have legitimzed once. Is there a possibility to use the API to pass the password in the background ?

I think, actually I only need somebody to explain to me how to get the the first Keyring so that I can use the KeyringAddKeyPlain Method. It is not well explained how to get the keyring for the first time. The documentation only mentions "it is returned from a previous call to a keyring management method". Unfortunately the same method does not accept a NULL keyring which should indicate that a new keyring has to be created according to the method's documentation.

I am not good at coding but this is what I was looking to do...

I want to add a customer login form on my website so a customer can either choose an album from a dropdown or enter their name, then enter the correlating password to access their photos on my zenfolio. Is it possible?

Has anyone given this a shot?

Aperture Plugin non-functional [EDIT: SOLVED]

I used to use David Holmes' ApertureToZenfolio plugin with Aperture 1.0. I've recently upgraded to Aperture 2.0, and the plugin very simply no longer works. Attempting to export a few selected photos to a Zenfolio gallery mysteriously results in an empty new folder in the Aperture Library instead. Then Aperture crashes.

The plugin developer's blog, which is the only place for download/support, has no contact link, and attempting to sign in to comment on the blog results in a 404 error. There have been no updates to the blog since June 2008.

Does anybody here know how to contact the plugin's author? Has anybody here had the same experience and fixed it? Is anybody here working on a replacement plugin? Anything?

We have created a browser to be used on mobile devices for browsing through one's Zenfolio albums.

This is a first version and has basic functionality. At this moment you can only browser through your photos. The next version will have better navigation, the ability to upload pictures made by a mobile to Zenfolio and a better and clearer layout.

I would love to hear your feedback and suggestion.

Warning: at this moment only the flash version on the linked url it self works, but there is a bug in our GSM runtime software which will be fixed soon. It should then work on most Java enabled phones.

WCF API wrapper - HS.Zf.Api

I've written my first piece of Zenfolio-related code: A WCF API wrapper.

This will be a necessary foundation to support anything I want to build.

It wasn't necessary for me to use WCF instead of WS-* (as used by the Zenfolio-provided examples) but VS tried hard to stop me using WS-* and to encourage me to use WCF, so it seemed prudent.

This simple library provides one piece of functionality over that you get from the example client provided with the existing examples: It tries to stay authenticated. If you have a process which stays running forever, you don't really want to handle expired authentication in your 'real' code.

I've given this minimal testing so far as I've yet to find out how it is possible to write tests for WCF-using code. Oren Eini has some ideas which I'll look at.

It's under the MIT licence.

zensync on mac

WHS Add-In

I'm working on a WHS (Windows Home Server) Addin.

The implementation I've currently setup is you specify a folder in your pictures share to keep syncronized with a gallery in Zenfolio.

I'm planning to add support for collections so you can spcify a folder as a collection and then the folders under it will be treated as Galleries and uploaded to Zenfolio.

Aperture to Zenfolio Problem

I have installed the aperture to zenfolio app, it shows up in inspector when I click on import, but it does not show up as an installed plug-in option under the export menu.

What am I doing wrong? Help!

New ZenSync2 available

I have just posted the release of ZenSync2 on my blog. It is a major new version of the orignal ZenSync created by Dan Richardson.

ZenSync helps you to transfer your images from your local file system to your ZF galleries. It parses a given directory tree and uploads all photos to ZF galleries which are not already there. It is written in PHP5 and runs on any desktop or server with PHP installed.

The story behind is that in May 2009 I was searching for a new way to upload my photos to my ZF galleries and found ZenSync. It's approach is so amazing. It perfectly integrates into my workflow. I'm using Adobe Lightroom for organizing and developing of my photos and although there is the Zenfolio plugin, which is also a great tool, ZenSync fits even better into my workflow. The LR-plugin with its graphical user interface is great for uploading a small amount of images to just one gallery. When repeatedly uploading larger amounts of images which maybe should go to different galleries, some reliability issues come up with the plugin.

As I was starting to use ZenSync I soon had some ideas of how to improve it for my use cases. After some long nights of coding with lots of coffee I found that I should contact Dan about making the enhancements usable for the ZF-community. OK, lot of words, here is the release.

Zenfolio FTP bridge tool

Hello all, I decided to make a quick-n-dirty python script to bridge an FTP client with Zenfolio.

You simply start this script (which acts as local FTP server) with a target photoset name (e.g. "Incoming") and then point your FTP client at 127.0.0.1. The username and password get passed through to the Zenfolio API. For right now it is "write" only, so you can't download files with this script.

Simple, but since I don't do a lot of python hacking it is probably buggy ;)

You will have to install a few python libraries but they are all pretty straight forward. Maybe a real python developer can tell me the preferred way of distributing these kinds of things.

Any free Mac-based tools to export content from Zenfolio to Flickr ?

Hi !

I'm looking to bump up traffic to my Zenfolio site by submitting some of my content to my Flickr photostream since their traffic is enormous but as I started to work on this project, I quickly realized that I would have to re-upload/resize over 500 photos, re-enter all the comments and website linkbacks for each photo to my Zenfolio site - not to mention upload times and bandwidth. Whew - What a job !

So I was wondering if anyone had a Mac-based Zenfolio to Flickr upload tool that would automate this as much as possible ?
