You have to pick the favorite photo of the previous poster. (Since mine is the first... I choose Kevin)

So...

Here is my favorite photo in Kevin's gallery:

Now... someone else has to pick one of mine... and so on. (It's quite interesting to see which ones other people choose)

Share With Us Your Current Best Photo

All, Share with the group what you believe is your best photo(s) based on whatever criteria you think are relevant ( your opinion, visits, sales, or whatever). Based on visits, here is mind (don't laugh, I'm still learning how to use the camera).

http://www.guildphotos.com/p998152170/h3ec5decd#h3ec5decd

It is said that understanding light as a whole is key to understanding what photography is all about.

So I thought "What better place to exercise my understanding of light than in various places of worship around town ?"

In each community, we all have places of actual light, and enlightenment (of the spiritual kind) so why not photograph some of them thanks to the Doors Open Waterloo Region initiative ?

And so, here's my latest photo project uniquely involved 11 places of worship around my region (Kitchener/Waterloo - Ontario, Canada) which I called:

"Hallowed Be Thy Name"

I welcome you all to have a visit at my gallery and witness the light in different wonderful settings.

Why is it a ZF success story ? I've already received offers to buy my photos from parishioners, local heritage societies, and dioceses. ZF is the key to the distribution of these photos via print or electronically.

Thanks ZF !

And I've only been here for a week, so I can't say it's (yet) caused my business to increase.

But after doing the trial pretty diligently for a week and getting some important questions answered, I took the plunge early today and signed up for a premium account (and canceled my pro account at SmugMug, where I had been for years). So far I'm really enjoying zenfolio.

After just one week, and with very little help, I feel I understand what I'm doing in zenfolio better than I did at SmugMug after several years. The options here are rich but really well presented and in general I've been able to figure things out on my own. I love "edit view" where I can organize galleries, collections and groups. I love being able to assign photos to collections (not possible in SmugMug). I like being able to provide coupons to clients and I've already sent a recent bride a coupon - a first for me. I like the way I've been able to integrate zenfolio with my domain home, so the "Photos" link at my domain home points to my zenfolio home page.

Well done, zenfolio.

While hearing "you're awesome" is nice, it isn't particularly helpful when what you're really after is feedback that can help you advance (same goes for "you suck" - no help there either). So, if there are any community members with landscape/nature experience that would be willing to offer their opinions, I would be very appreciative for the help. Also interested in hearing what other sites offer good venues for such critiques.

Thank you in advance. You'll find the link to my gallery in my signature.

The product itself has been very user friendly. I am, in reality, "technologically challenged" and that I could get our site up and running and look as good as it has is testament to Zen's good design and clear instructions. The Zen staff have been fantastically responsive to questions and have been kind even when the issue really has been "operator error" - (Thanks Laura). I am impressed with the dedication the team has shown in terms of responding to comments or questions on these forums, and appreciate that they are trying to keep people up to date with upgrades, etc.

And then there is assistance from the community. As a result of submitting images to the Zen Homepage Contest, in conjunction with following specific recommendations by Kevin Thompson on getting sites indexed by Google, etc., our visitor numbers have gone from 131 on 10/5 to 683 as of today. That may not seem like a lot for many of you, but it is a huge amount for us. We have been found by Google and Bing (though it is odd that some of the hits are forum posts, but I suppose that however you get hit is fine). If you are wondering about how to get indexed, Kevin's post of 6/24/09 is really helpful.

I don't have a huge wish list for Zen improvements, but being able to have a more sophisticated custom home page was one of them. Even so, the Zen community helped with this, too. Kevin mentioned Wix and Lori DeLude's positive experiences and after seeing her very cool site, I tried it out. I had a couple of questions, and Lori was really helpful and kind, and forwarded the information that Kevin had sent her to help her out. She doesn't know me but still went over and above the call of duty to help - a great kindness. As a result of her (and indirectly, Kevin's) help, within a week I was able to revise aspects of our site. Thanks Lori! Thanks Kevin!

So now I've mentioned Kevin twice, it's time for a hearty public "Thank You" to him for his thoughtful and kind posts on these forums. He does so much not just to assist folks getting their sites up and running well, but also to encourage their work and welcome them to Zen. He is down-to-earth, positive and manages to respond kindly to even the most heated posts. I think he is one of the key reasons that the Zenfolio experience is so positive. Kevin, you are a gem (and a damned good photographer, too).

Now, I may not have really appreciated all this about the Zen community if I had not had a very different experience with another site. Bad customer service (repeated billing problems, requests for support not responded to), responses on public forums that, at least to my eye, at the best seemed curt, and at worst sometimes just did not seem terribly respectful, and - not surprisingly - some very unhappy customers. Granted, it seems like that company has some growing pains, but the overall tone and feel is so very different from Zen.

Finally, it's been so interesting and inspiring to read the various forums - I admit that more often than not I have been a "lurker" rather than a participant, but I have learned a huge amount, and it is marvellous to see others' work.

So: Thanks Zenfolio for a great product and fantastic staff and thanks to the Zen community for helping us in our development. We couldn't do it without you.
