    About new MPix Pro service!

This looks really promising! Just found this this morning courtesy of Dave Cross's Blog.

Here is the link to the MPix Pro blog:

I briefly looked through the links and don't know that I need this quite yet. I could not get to pricing without a login. It's good to know about -thanks for sharing- and I'd be curious to know what others think.

No worries, happy to share stuff! As long as one meets the 'pro' criteria of deriving a portion of income from photography, one should qualify. Signing up as an mpix pro is free and new features are great. I was particularly interested in the mini gallery-wraps and prints on metal offerings... more good reasons to be on Zenfolio!

    ZF Admin,

How does this affect MPix's service to us? ZF does not offer all products that MPix offers, eventhough there is a partnership. On their page, at the bottom, it says :

    New! Online Hosting

Sell images online with Zenfolio. Simple Zenfolio upload via ROES.

    Learn More

To me, this implies that ZF offers the same products, but looking at the ZF shopping cart products. It does not.

    Can you explain this?

    Thanks!

Soon there will be more Mpix products available through Zenfolio but currently there is no way to upload to a Zenfolio account via ROES software.

We will correct this misinformation as soon as possible and we apologize for the confusion.

Thanks, Laura! I have not worked with ROES, but is this something ZF is looking at soon? It seems like it would be a good idea.

We definitely see the appeal of this and are looking into it.

Trace, you caught my attention with the word "free"! I'll look further into it, but I am happy to see from this thread that Zen is looking to align with these initiatives. Could someone enlighten me as to what "ROES" software is? (in layman's terms!)

I did not here about ROES until now. So I had same question. From Google search results I can only assume it is short for "Remote Ordering Entry System".

Re: About new MPix Pro service!

I am new to ZF, and just opened a premium account with the intent of product sale via web. Then (actually within an hour of paying the ZF upgrade) I received an email from MPIX offering the Pro account, which they  just approved after a brief questionnaire (still need to upload the test prints).

Now it seems theses are competing services! The MP Pro account offers discounts, including shipping, and some sweet additional products like Acrylic and Metal.

I have used ROES for a couple years. It is simply an FTP program offering a little more customization of your file (and allows for large TIFF transfers unlike browser uploads restricted to JPEG). Previously, ROES was limited to certain products including books, and also most of the MPIX special offers and discounts were not allowed through ROES.

ZF Admin: I would hope you can merge the MPIX pro with your premium accounts, and allow our customers access to the specialty products, while also letting us take advantage of the MP Pro discount pricing.

I'm mostly interested in the linen texture to the prints you can now get through MPix Pro. My preference is the finelinen texture, but I'd like to have it as an option to add it to all prints. Not only does it add depth and weight to the print, but it makes it harder to flatbed scan it.

ROES is an absolutely dreadful system especially if we Premium users already have orders placed with a customer in Zen. I'd also like to see the MPIX pro service added against a premium account (perhaps with an activation code from MPIX Pro) to make use of all of the products, discounts etc without having to go through a convoluted extra ROES process. That would make no sense.

Zenfolio team, please keep us informed about the MPIX Pro linkage. Zenfolio is a great tool that could do with the boost of the additional product offerings, premium packaging and shipment options.  It also allows us professionals to make it known to our customers that they are dealing with a professional lab and helps us to justify our margins on top of products we sell, particularly when a service like Mpix (standard) offers all of the same to the same customer for cost.

Re: About new MPix Pro service!

... and to add something else. I like MPIX processing and the fact that I don't have to lift a finger with the fulfillment. With MPIX however, the costs of my prints are plastered one click away from the zenfolio.com root: http://www.zenfolio.com/zf/pnp/mpix.aspx

I would like to see the mpixpro integrated with no pricing visible to the public. Zenfolio+Mpix = a great thing, but we pros need a little more of a veil over some of the workings.
