New Forum where clients can request photos with certain subjects/themes?

Would it be possible to create a forum where clients wishing to purchase prints and other merchandise can post requests for certain subjects/themes in the event a search does not yield the results they want?

Let say for example that someone is looking for a picture and I have it but I have not yet had a chance to put the keywords in because my computer crashed after upload or I had to run to work or class and haven't stopped running since. How do I know they're looking for something? Well if there were a place to post the request I could look at the forum and answer with my submission and the client could pick of the photos submitted. Another example would be if the photo requested truly does not exist yet but could be taken as a result of the request.

It would depend on how many people are looking for photo products to purchase though and I'm not sure how many that is.

What are your thoughts on this?

Would a Forum for Requesting Photos be a Good Idea?

    • Yes! (41.2%)
    • No! (58.8%)
    • Not sure... is there enough interest for it? (0%)
    You voted for 'Yes!'.

Excellent suggestion and I sincerely hope Zenfolio pick this up.

I'm at a loss to understand why people are voting "NO" - don't you want to sell your stuff? Confused

    Stock Agency?

I've voted no for one reason.  I see this forum as a support / members forum for clients of Zenfolio, another words us, not our clients.

I've been to many trade fairs, for manufactures and distributors, and have walked literally for days looking for products that fit my objectives. I have also been to trade shows where the buyer fills out a form of things that are of interest and that list is matched to the vendors that have those products and the vendor/seller goes to the buyer. Both methods work, but in either case the buyer usually knows what their looking for. Sometimes their supprised to find something they hadn't expected, but usually there is so much material to go through that one becomes fatigued...

I have turned off the feature that allows visitors to search outside of my material, only to keep them at my site. I believe the original intent here was to provide photographers a place to host and sell images on a one-on-one basis, not a collective store front with images from many sources, I may be wrong. Keywording does a pretty good job for the basics, a search for "Yosemite" would turn up and endless selections, but searching for "Alpine Flowers in Snow" might prove more difficult. I would guess that most of the images sold here are by invitation and are of sports, weddings or other types of events... I think your idea wouldn't diminish the experience and might even provide for interesting requests...

The idea is good, but in my opinion it is outside the scope and the purpose of this forum. Potential clients would never use this forum to submit requests for images. It seems that this idea should be integrated into Zenfolio site as a separate feature. For example, someone looking for a particular image comes to Zenfolio, searches for this image using keywords, and if the desired photo is not found, there's a way to submit a request. The request might be accepted by one or more photographers who will deliver the specified photo within a specified timeframe. Another problem is that while Zenfolio allows selling of digital downloads, it is currently not marketed as a stock photography provider.
