I have been experimenting with a fisheye lens for about a week now. Wow, new possibilities opened. So in order to see and learn different techniques, let’s see some fisheye photos. Fisheye or de-fished photos welcome.  I’m sure all will enjoy and learn from this interesting effect.

 Great photos !  I never used fisheye lenses but your photos make me think about my Christmas gift list !

I assume this was with a diagonal fisheye, not a circle fisheye that you cropped. Am I right ?

What lens exactly did you use ? Which photos are de-fished ?

 Correct, I did not crop these. The lens I use is a Nikon 10.5mm f/2.8G ED-IF DX Autofocus Fisheye. I got mine on Ebay.

Its fairly easy to tell which is fisheye or not by the width of the photo. Here is an example:

There is a learning curve with this lens and I'm still on it but my tests so far are very promising. You sure do need to get close to the subject. This photo was taken about 2 inches away:

From my IPhone gallery, used a kaleidoscope in front of the lens, used FX app for the vignette and then used the fisheye filter from CameraBag app.

alwheeler98, you defiantly get an A for effort and ingenuity on that one.

I think I'm getting a handle on this fisheye lens. Seems to require a little more thought in composition. The more you use it, the faster the composition.

Another thing is if your intent is to de-fish a photo from the start, the composition must be more exact so the wide product looks more natural.

This vertical shot came out pretty good. Minimal pitfalls of fisheye. I was very close, I'm not in the shot (feet, fingers, etc), Control the distortion areas.

Great shots you have. I actually like the distortion. In some shots it just works.

I've only shot with one on a limited basis, but it certainly opens your eyes to looking at things in a different way.

Here is the one shot I have, with distortion.

The upper right hand corner shows the tops of the buildings behind me.

Great shots for sure!!  I definitely like some of the angles you chose, it really accentuates the curve of the lens! 

Here's a shot I took at the 2006 World Series - Unfortunately I don't own that lens but I would love to have one (thanks for reminding me I need to pick one up) - I was using a borrowed one since I was going to the game.

Another great shot. The lens really gets it all in. You guys are giving me great ideas for future use of the lens.

I tried some at night as an experiment. Not great, but I'm gonna try again. Practice makes perfect, right!

This was just to see what the night sky would look like. Next time I'll aim at the north star and go longer for circular star trails. Perhaps the next meteor shower since you can get so much more sky.

This one is similar but from the start was going to be De-fished. I kept the horizon centered and cropped out the bottom third. I kinda like the wide angle you get.

I like the defished version. It just works better.

Ahhhhh, because of you fe135, I went to the Photo Show last week-end and tried the Sigma 10mm diagonal fisheye ..... and I truly loved it!!!  I didn't buy it immediately because I recently bought the 150mm macro and 30mm f/1.4, but now I know that I definitely want a diagonal fisheye!!!! Your photos and the tests I did during the Show proved to me that when properly used, distortion is not a problem (and in fact, can be used very creatively)....

Seriously, thank you so much for opening my eyes towards fisheye lenses ... it is on my wish list for 2010 !
