    some images display poorly

    Hello--

I am finding that images that rely on subtle gradations from shadows to highlights are suffering in the Zenfolio display. Where in the image toat I sent from my computer the range of tones was sufficient to give a smooth transition, in the Zenfolio display it is like the shadow was painted on with a barn brush.

As an example, the shadow along the model's left arm in this image:

shows such a hard edge compared to the image that I sent from my computer. Is there a setting I should check? Any ideas?

I don't see much difference between the original file that you uploaded and the image we display. I suggest you take a screenshot of the original image and the same image on Zenfolio side by side as you see it on your screen. This may give us an idea of what's wrong.

This image looks good on my screen. Can you please provide us with a screen shot of how the image looks on your screen prior to uploading? You can host it elsewhere to link to if that helps.

    It just got weirder.

When I got your post in my email program, the image embeded in your post looked great. When I went to Zenfolio to respond to the post, the image looked crappy.

It looks like a contrast issue, like the Zenfolio display is giving extra contrast.

Which browser do you use? If it's Firefox, I sugges you download and install the latest version (3.5.3).

Do you see the same problem if you download the generated image from http://citylife.zenfolio.com/img/v5/p617832906-5.jpg and open it on your computer?

Interesting. I downloaded the image and opened it up and it does have the display problem. So the image was changed in some way by the time I got it back.

left image is photoshop, right is the zenfolio download.

    Re: some images display poorly

well, I'm ready to chalk it up as unknowable weirdness and move on. I went back to the original full rez scan and re-shrank it, re-saved it and re-loaded it. It seems to be displaying accurately now and I have no clue why. I use the "save for web" option when I get images ready for Zenfolio, and I did that this time as well.

    No clue.

But thanks for your time and effort. I totally love Zenfolio and have never had even a micro-glitch, so thanks to all for the great service.
