Want To Upload Best Quality Images For Archiving Purposes

As the title says, I'd like to upload the best quality images for archiving purposes.  RAW is out of the question, but I heard that TIFF is a better quality file than JPEG (more information/lossless).  So I'd like to upload TIFF files, but even when I reduce the TIFF file from 16 bit to 8 bit I still get a 14 MB file which is too big to download onto ZF.  IS there a work around for this issue, besides getting the premium membership?

You may want to look for a service that's intended for usage as an archive.  TIFFs are better than not having anything, but nothing is as good as the original, especially since RAW processing algorithms will continue to improve.

That said, you may want to check the relative sizes of TIFF and PNG.  Both are lossless, but I'm not sure which compresses better.  Make sure your TIFFs are compressed (probably using zip compression).

While Zenfolio is a very nice site for displaying and sharing images, I'm not sure I would recommend it for archiving your originals. Then again, I would not recommend ANY on-line site for that purpose.

Your best option would be an external hard disk or optical media. Create two copies and keep one off-site. Migrate to new media as the old media becomes obsolete.

If you absolutely must store files on-line I recommend looking into a site like Carbonite.com which is designed to be an on-line backup.
