    Larger upload limit

I've just started using a Canon 5D 12.8 MP and now almost all of my images are too large to upload.  That is, unless I upgrade to the $100/year service.

Zenfolio may want to reconsider the limit due to the ever-increasing file sizes being generated by new cameras.

    Thanks.

the added features alone are worth the $100 a year, but think how much your going to shell out for more hard disks (yes plural, you do back up your files dont you?)? $100 a year for an unlimited size HD is cheap, and I am sure zenfolio backs them up as well, so its like your getting almost (as I knock on wood) foolproof backup.. How much did you spend on that 5D anyway? $100 is a fraction of that cost...

I think they are considering it on a continual basis. As 10+ megapixel sensors are becoming more common in consumer cameras I belive they will increase the limit, but on both subscrition tiers, keeping the differentiation. However when 10+ megapixels hits mass market, the 5D type camera will be at 20+ megapixels.

The added features are not worth $100/year to me otherwise I would have selected that service plan.

I certainly don't consider a photo hosting site a legitimate backup strategy.  The upload speed alone makes that unworkable.  I can archive 4.7GB of pictures to a $0.40 DVD.

There are quite a few $300 or less consumer point-and-shoots with 12MB+ sensors now on the market so this will potentially impact more than just "expensive" camera owners.

Which file format are you using? 12-megapixel JPEGs and LZW-compressed TIFFs typically take much less than 12MB.

RAW batch converted to JPG using Canon DPP.

Did some research and Flickr's $25/yr plan has a 20MB upload limit and unlimited storage. Looks like I'll be moving on.

Sure thing, if that makes you happier, move on
