Really, though, I'd just settle for the ability to have a coupon be for "base cost + X%" or "base cost plus $Y". I could be creative with the use of that.

Count my vote for this feature, too, please. Even if it's as simple as the Zenfolio system noting that parent containers have custom names, and pre-populating the custom name box.  Better would be to have a checkbox which says something like "inherit custom name hierarchy from parent containers".
